It easiest to think of this type of survey as a map. It shows the man-made and natural features of a site. This would include buildings, improvements, utilities, trees, streams or lakes, and elevation measurements to show the “lay of the land”. You would order a topographic survey when you want to see what’s on a site, as opposed to its boundaries.
